Magnetometry Survey at Wain’s Hill, Poets Walk, Clevedon

Magnetometry survey carried out at Wain’s Hill, Clevedon, North Somerset (centred on ST 39085 70655). The aim of the survey was to improve the interpretability of the previous resistivity survey conducted in 2006. The magnetometry survey revealed new potentially significant archaeological anomalies that were not detected by the previous survey. However, the survey's limitations due to time and resource constraints suggest that the Site should be surveyed in its entirety to achieve a more comprehensive understanding of its archaeological background.

This dataset is formatted to the standards outlined by the Archaeological Data Service (ADS) "Best Practice Guidance" for geophysical surveys. An .xml file for the file metadata and folder structure is provided (and duplicated below). However, more broadly it is comprised of three folders of data:

GEOPHYS_Project: The survey report in a PDF format and notes relating to the project and survey in a txt file. GEOPHYS_Other: Georeferenced data for the survey, including the grid layout and results of the survey which can be opened in GIS software such as QGIS. GEOPHYS_Data:The geophysics data, split into an open-source preservation format of RAW and Processed data (DATA_Preservation), raster image files of the results (DATA_Rasters), and preservation archival format of geophysical data in .xcp and .xgd format for use with geophsysics software such as Snuffler (DATA_Working).
